Class discussion
#1~3 below illustrates emerging/promising practices and challenges surrounding education. #4 embodies the power of experiential and hands-on learning driven by authentic and relevant tasks.- Information R/evolution by Michael Wesch (under 6 minutes)
- What is Web 2.0 by UTech (under 6 minutes)
- Learning to change - Changing to learn (5 minutes)
- From Knowledgeable to Knowledge-able: Learning in New Media Environments by Michael Wesch (15 min for reading plus a 20 minutes video inside the reading)
You will see that media always portray brighter
pictures for technology, when the reality of tech integration for
teaching/learning and impact is complex, dynamic, and disappointing. I claim,
technology is only as good as the people behind it. People balk about something as
the next killer application, much less discussed among practitioners is which
instructional design and learning theories should apply to guide the use of
media (because those two drive what people do with tech).
As/after you review these materials,we will
discuss:
- What is learning at its core? How one should learn?
- How learning will become different because of the Internet?
- Should any workplace or school formalize web tools/services into curriculum?
- If you are an ID person or one with expertise in instructional technology, what are the implication of trends and issues reviewed by these materials?
* Week 3 reaction paper covers materials from
weeks 2 and 3. After class discussion, you are welcome to leave a brief comment
(which will count toward course blogging participation (I highly recommend
watching the second and the third video below).

The web is always changing and making advances in todays world. Web 2.0 puts interaction to use in the classroom and in to the social world. As it makes more advancements in the classroom, educators must accept that these advancements in web are not all bad. Web 2.0 allows students and educators to build relationships, community, connectivity and allows greater access. The day of traditional classrooms are almost a thing of the past because when you step outside the classroom and out of the textbooks you step in to a very technological world. This is the way we interact and learn outside the classroom so by placing this technology in the classroom students will be more engaged and connected to the world and be able to find information, validate it, collaborate it and communicate it.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is changing everyday and I do believe that technology in the classroom is great addition. Web 2.0 is a benefit to the learning in the classroom. Back in the day before technology was introduce to classrooms, I don't believe that the learning was effective for the students. By adding technology items to the classrooms and it makes the materials more interesting to learn. It also help the teachers stay update with technology for their personal or business preference. I find that technology in the classroom is more exciting than just reading from the textbooks or writing on chalk boards. In today society everyone is in technology, so I don't see any problems with bringing the technology in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is being used more today everywhere. I think that it is a good thing to use technology in a learning environment. Web 2.0 is very helpful with using technology in a learning environment. I think that it keeps a lot of people connected. Using web 2.0 in a classroom can be very helpful for the students and teachers. It can help them communicate more and get assignments across. i think it is helpful also in finding out about information on something in the class and being able to share more information to a class that wasn't discussed earlier. Technology in the classroom to me is better and more useful. Technology is being used more everywhere today so why not use it in an educational manner!
ReplyDeleteTo my knowledge the web changes just about everyday, so with that being said, I think that the new advances to technology and the web will be a great asset and benefit in the learning environment. Web 2.0 is available to use at home, work, and in the learning environment, whether its for personal or public interactions. Web 2.0 also allows both students and teachers to interact with each other in a way that may be more preferable than in an classroom.
ReplyDeleteThe internet changes frequently. Using web 2.0 in the classroom has a lot of positives as well as negatives. Almost everyone is starting to use web 2.0 everywhere they go. It is just how people communicate now a days. Teachers now a days are posting homework online and using different websites so students can access the information even if they miss a day. If we are already using 2.0 outside the classroom, I think we should bring it in the classroom. It can be a lot more entertaining then staring at a chalkboard.

ReplyDeleteToday's way of teaching/learning is stronger and weaker than ever before thanks to Web 2.0. Information is now easily accessible and exchanged at a rate never experienced in the past. However, information can be edited by anyone and become less credible. Also, taking credit for another person's work is way to easy. It is true, the technology is only as strong as the one using it. Web 2.0 is a great tool and I can personally say I am one who using it wisely and responsibly.
ReplyDeleteWeb 2.0 is a great mechanism for learning. It can be used for personal or learning/work related tool. In a learning aspect, it can be used for students and teachers to communicate faster and easier. If a student has a question about a homework assignment a lot of the time people can use email, facebook or even the university/school's blog. Also, having assignments posted online is a lot more convenient for students because in modern times almost all students use the internet so it is convenient. Also if a student had missed class or lost one of the assignment sheets, they would be posted online so the student could easily access it. Overall, the web is a great tool for learning.
ReplyDeleteWeb 2.0 in my eyes is very effective. Technology and the internet are constantly getting stronger and becoming more widely used in our everyday lives. Web 2.0 helps educators and learners communicate with each other, which is always a bonus because there are new concepts and ideas emerging everyday. Using the internet is also a lot more faster and more efficient than things like textbooks.I just feel like the world is evolving and gearing more towards technology now days, so we should do the same in the classroom and evolve as well.
